Common Queries
Why did you choose this career path?
As a military wife and mother of four I often felt invisible. Over the years I became unaware of my own wants and needs outside of my roles and titles. When I began to see the benefits of my own journey to whole body health my passion share what I was learning ignited. The desire to help other women was the driving force for a career change to Art Therapy.
What is your theoretical orientation?
My approach is an eclectic one that is Person Centered and integrates both art modalities and talk therapy. There are techniques rooted in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Gestalt Therapy as well. Each client is unique and therefore so is the attention given to their individualized treatment plan.
What kind of clients can you help the most?
I specialize in working with mothers who are overwhelmed, overworked and have a sense of loss when it comes to their personal identity. Through creative expression my clients work on understanding the person they are and how it related to their ideal self. Often barriers lie in the area of stress and anxiety management as well as counseling in the realm of career, therefore these are areas of expertise for my scope of practice.
What do you love most about being an art therapist?
I love seeing my client's self confidence improve through the experience of experimenting with something new and the venturing outside of their comfort zone. When we are able to create, a part of us comes alive that may have been dormant or maybe we didn't even know it existed. That awakening brings us in touch with our authentic self which is where the real magic of living occurs.
